    Default Steam Uncapping Knife

Just curioius. As this is my first year beekeeping, I have yet to do any uncapping. Recently, I purchased some used equipment from a retired beekeeper. It was kind of a one shot price, for a group of items all thrown together. In this package is a steam uncapping knife. My question is how well do these work? Or is it a waste of time, and I should look for something else? I could easily build my own steam generator, but wanted other opinions before I even bother.

    Thanks in advance!

We used to boil a kettle on a stove in the bee shed, and run two lines, one for steam in and one for steam out to the kettle with a modofied cap with two copper pipes coming out that the pipe went onto.

Very effective, unless you go commercial scale, with electric uncappers, which small operators don't need to do, 40 hives is workable with two people...

They work well. The first one I ever saw was a steel gas can sitting on an oil stove w/ lines coming off of it to a hot knife.
I believe Root made and sold it.

Sounds interesting and effective. Never tried one myself but sounds like you are now obligated to post a video to YouTube.

My Cowan was steam until last year. Complaints were - slow to start up, kettle running out of water on long runs. Converted to electric.

It is worthless. What do you want for it?
