Going through some hives today and noticed some live drones getting booted out of the hive. Is this not a bit early for this. Also noticed a reduction of drones in most of my hives. Whats Up? Located in western North Carolina

A week ago we had a cold spell (snow) and a bunch of the Drones got the boot here (central WY), perhaps they thought it was fall?
Still seeing a bunch of the boys anyway.
Must not be anything coming in and so the loafers have to go.
Well we never talk about a king bee. For 31 years my wife has been telling me where the door is. Just something about females.

I was wondering about the same thing, as this is happening in my hives too. I don't get why this would be happening now. There are a lot of things blooming...why else would they do this aside from winter approaching or lack of food sources?
Maybe the ratio of drones to workers is a bit high and mamma has issued orders?
drones will drift from hive to hive like some family members will do from time to time. maybe to many drones for the hive to handle or the flow is slowing down.
