mysterious red pollen!!

noticed my bees are bringing in a dark red , almost dark pink pollen.
i'm in the pacific northwest - any idea what this could be?

I also have noticed the bees bringing in this pollen. I am located in Vancouver BC Canada. I haven't discovered the source but would love to know too.

I was just wondering this too, but I'm in Florida. My girls are bringing in something that is bright crimson red.

My bees will collect red pollen from the Horse chesnut. It is in the same family as the buckeye, although not poisonous.

there is a plant called 'Henbit' which looks like it could be a source; however its not very good for bees i.e. the pollen is hard to get to, but evidently it is possible!
Henbit ranges throughout much of North America and blooms in spring and summer

Poppy can be crazy red;dunno if you have many there but they're a popular ornamental here.

its the horse chestnut - i see it every spring - its rather greasy looking pollen - very cool to see it - someone probably has one in their back yard

Horse chestnut it is. Behind the hive location is a huge one and there is a park down the street with a few more that i know of within a few blocks of here

Dead nettle, which is usually mistakenly ID'd as henbit produces red pollen. My girls love it as it will bloom even in Winter around here sometimes. Early Spring when not much else is available for forage I see them wearing their thigh high red boots alot
