    I read hanging strips of bacon over the wires is a great way to get the bears' sensitive mouths to the wires.

    Fully agree! Don't blame the bear! If somebody or their neighbor leaves "food" out for a bear to take, who encouraged the nuisance? Responsibly sustainable beekeeping in bear country includes an electric fence around each apiary. If one feels they must feed the squirrels or other small wildlife it is probably best to put the feeding station inside a bear fence as well.

    Yes, that's true but the same holds true for my Goldens. Just sniffing the peanut butter "treats" they've both decided that the wires are not a good thing. (It only took once.)

    Inspected yesterday to see how things are doing and to replace the damaged bottom box. After checking a few, found one frame with beautiful "fresh" eggs in every cell. Queen is OK.

    You may want to take the bait off of the fence and edit your post about it.... Baiting is illegal in NY and if you do need to destroy a bear, openly stating that you baited the fence will not win you any friends in DEC
