    Smile Transporting Bees

I will be picking up my new packages the first week of May. I live about 3 hours from the pickup point. The weather is expected to be in the high 40's or low 50's. I have read on the forum that too cold or too hot will kill the bees. What is the best way to transport the bees in my car. One post said put them in the trunk. Carbon monoxide problem? If they are in the back seat is 70 degrees OK? Does anyone know how packages haulers control the temps in the big trailers they haul? Thanks for all the good advice.

The back seat is fine! Some cars have leaky trunks and some are good. The safest environment is the passenger compartment. I have seen "curtain trucks" with a reefer to keep them cool. It is probably overkill unless the driver makes long stops.

We transported our packages last weekend. It was about 3 hours on the road, and we took along a large Rubbermaid Tote, and a spray bottle with 1:1 sugar water. We placed the tote in the back of our vehicle (Ford Edge), and about half way home, we stopped for lunch, gave the girls a few sprays of syrup, then arrived home and installed them. They were happy the entire trip!
(We didn't put a lid on the tote.......no need to. We just wanted something to contain the syrup after we gave them a drink. They tote worked great.)

I usually put them on the passengers seat so i know they wont go no where...Try not to use any heat....Its best to have the heater in the vehicle shut off! I always found that its much better that way!
