I just recently installed a package of bees into a new hive. My dad is not happy with the location because he needs to mow around it. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the grass or no? Thanks for helping!

My bees are very docile. I mow around them all the time no problem.

I mow around my hives with no problems - unless I'm using the weedeater, which tends to annoy the girls a bit. Maybe wait until twilight, when the bees are mostly hived, to mow the area (if it's not too large)?
I weed eat with my 4 cycle stihl around them...I always suit up before i mow...just common sense. One of my growers mows right in front of my hives...he just does it early I guess.

I get on a riding mower and set it on the highest speed and then go past the hives really fast! Just make sure your not smiling when you cruise past the hives! ...lol
I mowed in front and around mine all last summer and was never stung. They are extremely docile though. I put weed guard down under the hive so that I wouldn't need to use the weedeater.

if you don't want to mow, put down some weed cloth, and cover it with mulch. but be ready to pull weeds when you go check your bees.
welcome to your new addiction!!
I think bees and dogs know when they are in control. I would mow barefoot if it was not totally unsafe. Pull up that weed cloth sometime and see what is crawling under it.

I have been curious about mowing too. I set my hives at the end of a field that has not been planted in several years. It grows clover, alfalfa, dew berry, blackberry, etc. I mow it with a tractor and bush hog once or twice a year. Do I need to wear a veil around the hives? Is there a safe zone of say, 10 or 20 yards? I am not sure how they will feel about a diesel tractor and bush hog but I know yellow jackets get absolutely pi$$ed off about them.
