    Default Interesting observation

Caught and hived two swarms. Set one facing North and one facing South. Noticed that both hives are building comb and laying brood on the west side of the hive first, not in the middle where I had even put some drawn comb. Also looked in the hive that they swarmed from and they too were starting on the West side of the box. Gets more sun on that side so I'm guessing that's the reason. I'm sure it happens to all hives that are shaded more on one side...right?

That is the way it is going for me but mine is on the South East side. I haven't taken my roofing drapes off yet and I am glad I didn't. More miserable weather this week.

My girls have a definite preference for the east side of the hives. I'm in the east side foothills of Pikes Peak and lose the sun/warmth mid afternoon. Opening faces solar south. Took the wraps off my hives yesterday.
