    Default I DID IT!!!!......now what

Got a call today about a swarm. I am just getting into beekeeping and have read bunches here and other places on the net, but HAD no bees...until today. So, I had this 5 frame nuc box that I was going to use for a trap. Took it with me, swarm was on a small bush right on the ground. Cut the limb and shook the bees into the box with five frames of foundation in it. Sprayed sugar water into the box and let it sit for a little while and 95% of the bees were in the box. It has a 1/2 x 2 1/2 opening for an entrance. The box is constructed of plywood D. Coates plans. I have the entrance screened right now and the top of the box taped (for transport). Ok, now what do I do? I know I need to get them to a deep at some point but I don't want to lose them. Help needed!!

    2nd Birdman.
You don't even have to put them into a full hive right now, just let the fill up the five frames and move them into a hive body later.

Got them settled in. Looking good. How long should I leave them before transferring to a deep? Man that was FUN. Even acted like I knew what I was doing!!

why put them in a deep?use 2 meds. for broodbox.more room than 1 deep.you can extract the outside frames when full...4 meds. instead of 2deeps....1 size fits ALL

A swarm will draw a 5 frame nuc out in a hurry....So keep an eye on it and when they start on those outside frames give them more room. Super your nuc, put them in a medium, use a deep box, whatever you use just make sure they have plenty of room. Good luck! Nothing like free bees!

When you got about 3 frames of bees I would add another nuc box to the bottom . They seem to grow faster as two 5-frame high over a single 10 frame anyway. Then when the weather gets better you could move them to 10 frames. But you hot or weather then MA.

    LOL
