Buying Compressors made easy?

I am looking for a new compressor and have learned a lot lately from other forums on compressors. Who would have thought that there is so much to them. Here is the link to the thread where I was asking questions and there are link to others inside so if you want to build a shop quality compressor setup read the threads. There is several hours of reading. but, very informative. That HD and Lowes style large compressors will do our be hives but, not much more turns out.

I have gotten allot of education on compressors the last few days. Glad I found this forum (thanks oldred) and a few others off of posts in the hotrodders forum. These are some of the ones I found especially helpful outside of here.

I also went to HF to get a paint shaker (looks cool might mix paint for me). But, I looked at thier compressors again. That whole Chinese junk thing worries me. They have one that looks good but, not sure. $799. See pictures below. This is the belaire one with an italian motor not the Chinese junk one.

Did you look at the Ingersoll Rand Type 30t? I bought one in 1980, 1 1/2 hp, that will out do most 3HP compressors. I think they are still made.

That one would be too small. I need a 5hp with a 60-80 tank. I need it to get to 175 to run my sanders correctly and hit my bee house 500 feet away and still have pressure. We do repairs down in the bee shed in the bee yard in the middle of the property.

You cant go wrong with an Ingersol Rand.I have a 5hp one that I bought 15 years ago at a warehouse auction,Seems they used it to run part of a conveyor setup.It has provided years of dependable service running air tools in a body shop (very high demand)They are the gold standard of compressors.

Easyside- an IR maxes out at 200 PSI. What CFM do you need? 500 feet with a surge tank seems doable.

I've been using air compressors for along time and I would reccommend the Ingersoll Rand. You can always get parts for them if you need them. As the saying goes you get what you pay for. I invested in a new one back in 8/2005 here are the specs on it:

175 psi
Two stage
It will run all the air tools I have so I am well satisfied with it, check northerntools.com

IR's are bulletproof, we have been running one (now two) for 20 years in a big truck shop without a hitch....and that is running 1" impacts.
I guess I should mention mine are 220 3 phase.

I have a nice sears one, good warrenty on it also, I have had zero problems with it.

I tried to get 3 phase here and they wont let me. Seems 2 miles is to far out in the woods for 3 phase. I run 220 for most everything so that is not a problem it is that extra leg of 110 that makes the 3 phase I don't have.
