If a drone has no father, only a mother is it safe to say that even if a queen mates with 15 drones, and there are only, say 5 hives in the area, that the resulting colony will only consist of the variations from 5 hives. So my thought is that it is not only the number of drones a queen mates with but the number of colonies those drones represent. Since all the drones in a colony should be clones of each other (having no father only a mother). The workers would represent the queen and any combination of the 5 drone colonies. Will having so few colonies in an area have a negative effect on the diversification in a hive?
