posted on here that a 5-gallon bucket will keep a hive from blowing away in a hurricane...I think it was a hurricane expert. Something about driving with a hive on the roof of their car and a bucket on top...or something like that...hmm, it might've been on the hood. It's all kind of foggy to me now...must be true, though...it's on the internet!!!!

This line of comments piqued my interest so I looked up the earlier thread (turns out to be from before I was reading Beesource). Here is one of the quotes, in a thread titled "Hives and high winds", and included discussion of hurricane preparations:
