    Default Diatomaceous Earth

I was reading at another thread, where someone is treating the soil around the hives with DE; does anyone know if this kind of treatment will have adverse effects on the bees?

I have a colony that had ants last summer, there were lots of leaves on the grouind. I applied DE and covered it with leaves. It took care of the ants and the colony is still alive. If I go back to that location I will use DE again.

If the bees are walking on the ground where it is spread, it will more than likely kill them. That said, most bees which walk around on the ground around the hives are usually sick...so no loss.
