    Default Checkerboarding and Removing Frames

    Hi all

    I have 2 questions:

    1. What is checkerboarding?

    2. When you remove brood frames (if you are adding some from a thriving hive to one that is not doing well) what do you do with them if they have brood in them? Throw them out?

    Thanks!

May I suggest you do a search for checkerboarding.

If you are "adding brood frames" to make a weaker hive stronger, you want as much brood in the frame as possible, that's what make the hive stronger (when the bees hatch and join the lesser population).

If you mean "removing brood frames" in context w/ checkerboarding, well just do a search

Point of view on this web site has writings of Walt Wright who came up with checkerboarding. Or just do a search as Dave W mentioned.

    Just some thoughts.

Sorry when I meant throw out frames, I meant the ones with the small amount of brood that you are replacing.

I typically don't want to throw brood out. Unless there's something wrong with it, throwing it out is a step in the wrong direction. (Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're proposing.)
