    Default New page layout

As you have noticed, we made a few changes to the site this week. For months, I have been trying to incorporate space for members to place advertising on the site. We messed around with adding those ads at the top, but that space was limited and created other problems. The decision was made to create a space on the right side, site wide, to use for member advertising.

I know changes like these are usually hard to adjust to, but I hope everyone will understand and give it their best. The fact remains, revenue is needed to keep this place running and expanding. Server hosting requirements continue to grow. I've had to upgrade hosting service twice in less than a year. I still have a lot of ideas I'd like to implement on the site, as resources are available.

I'm always interested in constructive feedback. Please feel free to leave comments.
    Regards, Barry

New folks won't even know the difference. I must say it caught me off gaurd when it happened and I wondered if something was wrong w/ my computer, but apparently there isn't. I don't have a problem w/ it. I hope it helps the bottom line out.

Now if you go narrowing it down again on the other side, that might be a problem.

Ever consider a "Top of Page" or "Bottom of Page" function?

The Organic Gardening Magazine website adopted a similar layout and it works ok. The only problem is the odd advertiser that feeds an expanding graphic that compresses the post area.

More power to you. For that matter put another tier of google ads under the user ads.

Barry, It covers up the smiles on the RH side of the page. Personally I do not like it, how much would we need to donate to replace it!

Wayne - That won't happen here as all the graphics have to come through me first.

David - I'm kinda sensitive to Google ads and only use them as a necessary evil. Top and bottom is as far as I go with their ads.

Covers up the smiles? Widen your window.
If donations alone could pay for site costs, It would have shown to be true years ago. It certainly helps, but the site has grown well beyond that.

Concerning the site, i notice you don't host any images and require those to be from links outside... is that for space reasons too?

It has been, but now that I've upgraded the server, I will readdress this issue. The other thought was to allow members to subscribe to a fuller membership package for a small fee. Able to post images, more PM's, etc. Thought about doing this with the classified area as well. Some members are cashing in quite well using that area and the site ought to receive a little something for that service. Trying to get those that make the most from the site be the ones that help support it.

I thought there was something wrong with my browser at first as well, but I think it looks fine and not very intrusive. I did notice that there appears to be a centering issue with the ads and links underneath on the advertise page (http://www.beesource.com/advertise/) as everything is left justified underneath the left menu column which is center justified. If this was intentional nevermind my comment

I realize the space requirements could be overwhelming, but you could address that with size limits.

Having the content locally is really the best way to preserve the threads and data for later use. Right now you can browse old threads and often the links are broken. It makes sense, somebody clears out an image from their Flickr account they posted 2 years ago and are tired of looking at and boom, the link here breaks.

I'm not seeing what you're seeing regarding justification.

I fully agree. Like I said, I am seriously looking at this and hope there is plenty of space for this.

    Mike -

My screen is 13" wide and my browser window 11" wide and the ads are to the right. I think your screen resolution must be quite low. I have mine set to 1440 x 900. Do you need eye wear?

Never mind. I checked it at home and the advertisement links showed up on the right side of the page like they should. I am not sure why they showed up on the left side at work...must have been a browser issue on my end.

Also, the bee removal link is missing the ".com" - not working for me either.
