How do bees handle comb and foundation that is split or has large areas missing? Do they make a mess of it or does it all need to be replaced?
Thanks -

Zone 7A - Southern, MA. Elevation 138 ft.
4 hives: 1 Carniolan/Italian Hybrid, 2 Swarms from that hive and 1 Russian.
How do you mean split?
If there are areas of foundation that weren't drawn out and the rest was, then possibly it was older plastic foundation and the coating of wax wasn't thick enough.
You could try to coat the bare spots with some wax and put the frames back in or simple clean it all off and start over with fresh.
Push, Pull, or get Out of the Way
I mean cracked. Like it was handled roughly when frozen and has crack lines or pcs missing an inch or so. I should have taken pics to show exactly what I mean, I'l try to do that within the next few days.
