What do I need to play .wmv files on a Droid?

Do the files need to be converted on a computer then transferred to the phone's memory card?

I think so. WMV is not a standard....it's proprietary. My son converts wmv's to mp4's before he puts them on his droid. I think AVI files have the same problem. I know he just converts everything to mp4 and puts them all on our network at home, no matter what format they originally came in, that way the files work on everything he has. I don't know the conversion program he uses....it's likely he uses a few different ones knowing him.
