I just ordered 2 colonies of Carniolian bees from my local beekeeper. He also loaned me a spare hive to copy and make my own (Thanks Bob!).

Signed up for a beekeeping class and beesource.com. I am scouring the boards, searching the web, and I've got the recommended books on the way.

I am working to be ready for spring and bees.

I got my first Carniolan queens last year and the hives I requeened with them did very well. I hope you have success with yours. Hope your bee classes are as rewarding to you as the classes I took from Western Maine Beekeepers Assoc. was for me.

Do you mind if I ask what books you ordered? I'm kinda a beekeeping book enthusiast (recently).

Good work on borrowing a set of woodenware to copy from. I usually order my first of everything unassembled, then use those as templates to make about a dozen or so more for my needs. Saves on cost more than you would imagine.

Do you mind if I ask what books you ordered? I'm kinda a beekeeping book enthusiast (recently).

I ordered First Lessons in Beekeeping, The Hive and the Honey Bee, and the ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture. The first was recommended by this site, and reading reviews of the others seemed like I would have the references I would need for most things.

This site is also highly recommended. I look forward to reading and asking questions of the more knowledgeable beekeepers on the site!

All are very good books. The Hive and the Honey Bee was the textbook for my college courses in beekeeping.
