Greetings from Iowa

Trying to figure out if I want to get started with bee keeping. Last year, my husband and I had a whole colony of bees "roost" in a small white pine in our yard for a night. I was fascinated, but not prepared to collect them. Anyway, we have thought about it since then and hopefully will proceed. I am sure there is much to learn.....

If you haven't yet, get yourself one of the beginner books.
Complete idiots guide to beekeeping, beekeeping for dummies, are both pritty good starter books.

Definitely do it. Start small with two hives and read all you can before beginning. Now is the time of year to get set up so pull the trigger. You won't regret a minute of it.

Welcome! Another good place to start is to go to either a local club or state association meeting. The Iowa Honey Producers has a website www.abuzzaboutbees.com that list the local clubs in Iowa. I would also get a beginner book and read all you can. I would call some of the bee supply companies and get their catalogs coming as well. Good Luck!
