Feeding bees "cooked" honey

I melt my combs and cappings in a double boiler. The wax and honey separate when cooled. Can I use this "cooked" honey to feed my bees or is this unsafe for the bees?

Guess it depends how "cooked" is cooked. Increased levels of hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), a substance dangerous to bees, occur when honey is exposed to excessive heat. Without a definitive test of the levels of HMF in your "cooked" honey, you're taking a risk. Perhaps others have some better guidelines.

I have fed many gallons of solar melted honey to my bees for years and they gobble it down. We discussed HMF's here recently and I came to the conclusion it is a myth not to be feared.
