SHB - What method to treat?

I have found some small hive beetles in my hive recently.

I would like your opinions on which method you use to deal with SHB's. Also, if you could tell me why you prefer your solution as opposed to others, that would be helpful.

The beatles should not be a problem this time a year. I use a homemade freeman trap if I see a lot of beatles on a hive from May to Aug, but this time of year even in your location SHB should not be a problem. They like sand and you have plenty of it, so next year keep a good lookout. I don't have any information on what I am about to say but as you know the SHB pupates in the ground in front of the hive. I would go to the beach and get some very salty sand and put in front of the hive. I feel sure that would help. I have not had any problems with a hive that had enough bees to protect the comb. Just don't give 2 frames of bees 10 frames of drawn comb. SHB do not bother foundation as they have no place to lay their eggs.

my screen bb with the oil pan is what I use year rond used veg` oil dont clot up in the winter but it gets thick. if any thing fall in and the bees chase the shb into the screen all year. I change the oil about 4 times a year or as needed.I think it keeps the mites at bay also because there are no chem` in my hives.good luck rock.

So I guess you don't have a problem with SHB in Texas? So what's your secret on keeping your hives healthy?

I am surrounded by beetles, and have had bad problems in the past. My beekeeping neighbor in Longview (15 mi away) is having really bad problems. I will post the article I wrote about what I am doing sometime later this week.
