Default How should I clean crushed wax?

I just crushed a bunch of wax cappings in a strainer to get all the honey out. What would be the best way to clean off the rest of the honey from this wax? Will it work to just run warm water through the strainer?

Soak the wax in water... this works best in it's current state since before it's melted together it has a very large surface area.

I spread it out on a cookie sheet set out by the hives and let the bees clean it. In a couple of days it is clean, the bees got free food and if it is in the sun the wax will be bleached.

I would not put it any closer that 50 yrds form my hives this time of year. It will draw bees from 2-3 miles away. It could set off robbing if placed close to your hives. Just my 2 cents.

I just melt the wax in a large pot of water.

Let it cool... La voilà !

Rinse with warm water and then render as usual.

I usually melt it gently in the oven, let it cool and take the honey off the bottom for baking, and wash the wax. If you want it cleaner you can rerender it.

Once you've separated the wax and capping honey, and have a disc of wax, bee parts, and stuff, how do you filter is again for candles,.......?

Some people put the crushed wax in pantyhose and then soak/rinse in a pail of warm water. The wax-filled panyhose is then put into a solar melter and further filtered using paper towel. The debris is left in the pantyhose.

I put the cappings in my back yard about 50 ft from 2 hives.
There was no robbing but THOUSANDS of wasps appeared.
They seemed to not just take the honey but also shred the wax.
Me (and my children) are no longer fans of this method.
