Dead bees

I noticed today a good number of dead bees in front of most of my 12 hives. They are working golden rod like mad so I hope it's just due to the extremely heavy activity. There seems to be an equal amount in front of all hives. Your thoughts please...

What's 'a good number of dead bees'?
10? 50? 300? 800?
and is that number in front of each hive, or is it the total number?
And do you think the dead bees have accumulated over time, or did they appear suddenly?

I have seen that many and more. Dunno why though but scared me. They seem to be ok though

I can count 50 or so dead bees in front of my hives at any given time. But they are just accumulated bodies that died over a few days. After any heavy rain there are maybe 20 new bodies dragged out and dumped too. The dead bees all look normal, so I don't think much about it. The hives don't seem to have a problem.
Consider that a queen lays a thousand eggs or more in a day. That's roughly what you might expect in normal daily deaths of workers then too. Granted most workers probably don't die inside the hive, but if your 50 dead bees look normal (no deformed wings, no 'mummy' chalky larvae, no bunches of bees trembling and crawling around dying) then I myself wouldn't worry as long as the rest of the hive looks healthy and the population is good.
