    Default Yellow jacket queen picture

    Hi All,

Well, we had a little yellow jacket problem under a bush in the frontyard landscaping, making it difficult to trim the bushes (there is 10 acres here, you would have thought they could have picked somewhere else). So, in some not so friendly terms, we asked them to vacate the property, 1/2 gallon of soap water at a time. Before dumping the last 1/2 gallon, last night, I noticed a super long yellow jacket wandering on the ground not far from the nest and was wondering if that was actually the queen? They still got the soap treatment anyway as I would like them gone, want to get the trimming done, and I want to dig up the nest for curiousity sake.

    Thank you,

Body color and pattern are the most reliable identifiers.

I had an encounter with two nests where we mow. I worked on one nest for a week and had unknown backup from something that dug up the remains overnight. What did the digging on the first dispatched the second by itself. I did not see a queen. The comb was a smaller cell than honey bee comb.

Wht is the recipe for this soap water?

And does the nest have to be totally submerged or do you just have to get some in?
