How far north do you get wax moths?

Hello All,
I bought several hives from the father of a good friend. These hives sat unused out in his barn in northwestern Montana for about 12-15 years before I bought them. The comb all seems to be in pretty good shape, so since I'm fairly new at beekeeping, and don't have any experience with wax moths... I thought I'd ask is Montana just too far north or too cold for wax moths?

No, it is not. As far north as bees are kept would be my guess. wax moths don't need beehives to live. As far as I know. We just call them wax moths cause they are found destroying comb. They actually should be called pollen moths.

Hi Freunde der Wachsmotte, diese benötigt mindestens 15 Grad Celsius zur Vermehrung.
Wer keine Wachsmotte haben will der sollte auch keine Brutwaben lagern.

I got some late summer here near Albany NY, when I left some old brood comb in a swarm lure box a couple weeks too long. Ick!
The moths don't stand a chance in my two active hives though- too many vigilant guards and workers defending their hives.
