Default Oh no! I lost some brood

I picked up a colony from an ad I saw on craigslist and had transported them to their new location. The colony was inside a small trash can and so I removed the comb with brood and had placed them in new empty frames with rubber bands to support them. This was last weekend. Today I went to inspect the hive and noticed the bees had started all over again with new comb attached to the inner cover and have neglected the two frames of brood I had in there. It looks like the ants had started to make their way in the hive and have started getting at the old brood. I was totally bummed out to see this. So now I have to remove the new comb since I can't really let them attach it to the inner cover. Should I have filled the super with frames so that there wasn't enough room for them to attach to the inner cover? I had only left it with the two brood frames last week?

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Yes Mike, you guessed correctly, although I'm kind of suprised that they are drawing new comb at this time of year. But then I'm not familiar with what's going on in your geographic region.
