    Default Honey Bee Help

I need some input from someone more experienced than myself. There is someone i know that lives a few mile away and has a honey bee swarm that has been on their pole barn and i'm wanting to get them the problem is i have absolutely no equipment no hive nothing. I have been doing research for the last few years but just never had a chance to get any hives and such. Is there any thing i can do, i plan on ordering a starting kit but it wont be here soon enough. There is a few people around here that do it commercially but they are always busy it seems. Could someone give me a idea. Thanks

there are links on the home page here that has the plans to build complete hives or nucs but its kinda of late in the year to be starting from scratch.
i don't think they would have time to draw comb and cap stores for winter especially that far north. but a michigan beek can tell you more about what it takes to winter there. compared to you guys we don't have a winter here.

Even if you could hive them they probably won't survive your winter. What about telling one of those commercial beeks you mentioned, about the swarm and offering to help him retrieve it to unite with one of his weaker colonies? That would help you save the bees, establish a relationship with a beek, and give you some experience. Then you can get equipment assembled this winter and get ready for next spring to get your own.
    Just a thought.
