Name is Chris and just getting into the hobby. Started to purchase some equipment, couple hives and waiting for a class and next season. Looking for someone in the Central Va area willing to mentor or help out.
Little about me, farmboy, went into military, served 10 years (Aim High). I have 4 daughters and a lovely wife.

Might I suggest looking for a local beekeeper's association? They are great places to find classes and mentors.

Already joined the state and local, however this time of the year seems pretty lax, no meetings until Sept. Doing all the stuff I think I should be doing, reading, studying, reading...looking for On The Job Training (OJT), free labor of course just to learn within 50 miles or so of Orange, VA

Welcome Chris, I spent 20 plus years in the Marine Corps myself. If you are ever in Tampa, Florida stop by the University of South Florida. We have several teaching hives at the Botanical Gardens.
