    Default queen in package question

I recieved my first package the last Friday. There were not any attendants in the queen cage. My question is why do the bees feed the queen thru the screen but, if you were to let her out too soon they will kill her? I understand it is standard practice to ship queens this way when they are in a package. Just one of those things that got me to wondering.

Package queens mostly don’t have attendants in their cage. They are feeding her because they love her. If they didn’t, they would be biting the screen trying to kill her. Most of the time the time it takes the package to get to you they are accepting of the new queen and feeding her and you don’t see the angry behavior.
