Our new hive and bees

so we got our bees last Monday an installed them in the hive. This is the hive my daughter and I built, as well as some other pictures. We had comb 2 days after install.


The install went well, we did not direct release the queen.

Pictures look pretty cool. I'm new to beekeeping: How do top bar hives work. are the frames similar to Langstrom frames?

Well the top bars work similar to the frames in a lang, but there are no sides. The bees build the comb to the shape of the hive, but without sides on the bars you have be careful how to twist and turn the bars or you will break the comb. This is our first hive and their aren't a lot of people in NH using them right now so I am still learning. What surprises me is the complete lack of fear my daughter has when dealing with the bees. She has been stung before playing in the yard. I am very proud of her.
