Dear future Boy Scouts Beekeeping Mentor,

Recently, a BSA official publicly stated that a primary reason BSA was reluctant to reinstate the merit badge is a lack of mentors. Put simply, who is going to teach the scouts???? Not much point having a badge if there are no mentors.

IF YOU REALLY CARE THEN YOU, DEAR READER, ACTUALLY NEED TO DO SOMETHING TO HELP THIS EFFORT!!!

The simplest thing you could do is tell BSA that you would be willing to teach beekeeping to Scouts in your neck of the woods. To make this process as easy as possible, I have drafted a form letter:

http://www.beesource.com/files/bsabeekeeperletter.bsa.pdf

In this letter, you show support for Christopher's campaign and commit yourself to working with BSA by acting as a mentor. If this badge is reinstated, BSA would provide the materials. Dr. Dewey Caron has committed himself to leading a team to draft the materials, if BSA reinstates the badge.

On a related thread, I have asked for beekeepers to have their local clubs pass resolutions. This letter should be used in addition to that resolution if you have a bee club. In other words, even if you are a member of a bee club that passes a resolution, please also send this letter, if you are willing to act as a mentor.

The idea is to demonstrate to BSA that there will not be a mentor shortage.

Thanks,

Christopher Stowell and Neil V
