My 15 year old son wants to raise bees so I'm learning right along with him. He actually returned an Xbox to Game Stop to get the $$ to get started.
Do you guys recommend he start with 1 or 2 hives?

why not get one for each of you since that way you can learn together and will be some good bonding for each of you. good luck

Hello and welcome!
Chester County - I have an uncle out that way, in Media.
Beekeeping is a great hobby for you and your son to share. Start reading! Check your local library for books & videos. Check out the "How to Start Beekeeping" subforum: there are many great suggestions covering the basics.
Get involved with a local beekeeping club. Clubs often offer classes for beginners and are great places to find mentors and get connected to local beekeepers. Much of beekeeping is "location-specific", and so the local guys can help with what works best in your area.
