Default Hive Scale . . . Any suggestions?

I scored a platform scale for $60 off of Craig's List. I finally got around to putting the hive on the scale. For those of you who have a set up like this, do you have any tips or recommendations? I'm currently covering the vertical arm with a garbage bag (laying on the ground). I put a fresh coat of paint on the scale and will leave it exposed to the elements.

Here's a pic. By the way, you can see some bees flying in the pic as well.

Also, bees are going through about 1/8 lb of stores per day.

perhaps a tarp and some bungie cords, but that is strictly speculation. good score on the scale!

Build a small tin covered roof over the vertical post and beam. Ours has lasted over 60 years.
Was there an earlier thread on this same subject?

Don't be jealous. I looked on the 'Net and found a bunch of them for sale with the highest priced at $175. Go to the Exchange/For Sale section. I have posted all of the links there.

Perhaps one of the woodworkers on the site would like to build on my idea. Build a hive stand that is split horizontally and hinged in front. In the back, create a space to insert an inexpensive bathroom scale like a slab of meat in a sandwich. (Go digital if you prefer). One could leave it there or with a provision to open the sandwich, like a long lever, slip the scale in every once in awhile.

Thanks for that. Whenever I get a good idea someone steals it. Same thing happened with the hive tool.

I devised a scale from a 200lb spring scale I used to weigh deer with. A lever, a pole to mount it on nd a chain with hook to the bee hive landing board. Push down on the lever and the scale end lifts the hive.
