Are there any sellers of packaged bees and queens in Colorado? It seems to me that purchasing bees raised at a higher altitude may be a good start since I am 7,000 feet on the Western Slope.
Thanks
Jerry

There are a few I know of in New Mexico at higher elevations who might be a fit for you. It is less about elevation, maybe, than a short and cold season. Get yourself some Caucasian Mountain Bees! Maybe. Or not. Feral bees from your area are best. Get yourself on the swarm line! Find a bee tree! Propagate queens from there!
I was referring to Rocky Mountain Reinas, from Zia Bees. I have never used them, but might be right up your alley.

Paul with Western Colorado Mountain Honey in Silt sells lots of nucs in the spring. Get your order in early.

We already sold out of nucs, but we still have packages for sale for pickup here in Grand Junction. High Altitude queens are not available in the early Spring. Consider getting started then catch a wild swarm in your area to raise or keep the wild stock. Good luck.
