I have a deep on top of the inner cover to enclose the 2- ½ gal mason jars feeder, the deep is covered with a frame of fiberglass window screen. On the last inspection, I noticed a SHB trying to wedge through the mesh diagonally, and kept trying, square by square, it almost made it through, I guess a smaller beetle would have gone through easily.

I am using SBBs with #7 or #8 meshes and greasy inserts; this seems to be an easy point of entry for any pest ( ants, rolly polly bugs, gnats and some other non ID bugs) if they are not blocked out with the greasy inserts. I think that a redesign is on order, with side vents, using double window screens.

I know now from observation that the SHB will go through this meshes (#7 or #8).
Would the x moth or the SHB deposit eggs on the outside of the screen, hatch and crawl up to the frames or they have to be inserted in the wax?

Other observations:
-I saw a rolly polly bug moving around with a varroa mite attached to its back. Is this mite evolving and finding other vulnerable hosts?

-SHB hides inside the extrusions of the plastic frames (PFxxx), bees do not seem to be able to reach them and nobody has mentioned this, I wonder why $$$?
