    Default American foul brood

Hello fellow beekeepers, this is my first year beekeeping and its been alot of fun, I got my bees april 29th and I started with a ten frame super, and the bees filled it out nicely, added another ten frames in the middle of summer and they have filled these ten out as well. This is my concern around the end of september I noticed a funny smell coming from the bottom super, I have read that AFB has a strange smell, any input on what it might be or what dose AFB smell like any input would be helpfull.

a bee inspector told me the closest way for her to describe AFB smell was "fruity fishy" smell. Did you do a rope test with a toothpick?

The only hive I have ever seen with it smelled like something dead and rotting....very nasty but that hive was completely consumed with it. Might you be smelling goldenrod being cured?

What is goldenrod? this is all new to me, you only smell it on warm days and less on cooler days and its not real strong. I get a wiff of it every once and a while when I'm near it.

When they are working goldenrod the nectar makes the hive smell like stinky feet....I can smell it from 30-40' away up at my place.
