Default Do you have a favorite "message" movie?

What I define as a message movie is one that has an underlying theme or philosophy about life, love, or other human subjects of interest. They are not necessarily inspiring, but can be. They also aren't necessarily exciting, thrilling, or passion-filled. One of my favorites is "The Weather Man" with Nicholas Cage. Do you guys have any to add to the list?

    Ever heard of netflicks?

    "The Wild Geese"

The movie is great but I think the best message is that nothing has changed from then to now. Shame.

Hmm, that could be a tough one since the message I get may be different than the message you get.
"The Weather Man" is a sort of "slice of life" representation about a divorced guy with two kids who happens to be a weather man for a living. It's the story of a human searching for the meaning in a mudane life, and trying to find answers to why things happen and how to determine the best course of action. It does not have thrills, excitement, or love interests, but it's one of the most serious movies I've seen- serious in a positive way. If you think in a philosophical way at all, you will probably enjoy it. If I can find a copy of it, I'll buy it for you and send it your way. If you like it, you can keep it. I already have a copy of my own.

Thanks! But don't do that. I will ask the wife what she thought about it. Her thumbs up is an automatic thumbs down.

Well, I guess you could give it to your wife.
Okay, if you don't want it, I won't get it for you.
But- even DH liked it, and he's a war, sci-fi, action movie-type guy.

    Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood.
I kind of thought the whole thing was stupid and predictable but my wife spent the whole time looking at me like "so there's still hope for him" and so overall it wasn't half bad as now she thinks more highly of me.

OK, "Enemy Below". A WWII flick about a destroyer and a German Sub. The chess match of life...no animosity, just going about their jobs as best they can, trying to beat...destroy...the other.

In the end the captains of both vessels salute those lost in the encounter. It's the job we signed up to do...we did it...that's it.

Yeah, the guy from the outback has seen none of these, except perhaps, The Enemy Below.
I see segments of all kinds of movies in passing, but like the pieces in the bottom of the jigsaw cupboard, they never turn into a picture.

I like "Forrest Gump" as far as a philosophical movie is concerned. Of course, Sound of Music is extremely close to the heart of family and motherland.

In Forrest Gump, the entire dilemma of mankind is summed up in one mans lifetime. Is it Mama or is it Lieutenant Dans? Which is right, which is left. "You know, I think it's kinda both........... like happening at the same time in the same place."

So I just keep telling my story to anyone on the bus stop, knowing full well that no one of them wants to hear it all!

I like "Men in Black," too. It gives us a handle on reality as far as how the Universe sees us. Men in Black II just gives us more of the same but with more action. One can never see himself clearly until he gets outside himself and sees himself through the eyes of the man in the moon.

    Not recommended for beginners.

    Cheers,
