    Default shb test!

I had a dead hive with all kinds of shb's and larve in it.So i thought i would test them with what every one is all ways talking about and more.Boric acid running shb and was making them sick;baking soda nothing;garlic powder run the larve;ground cinnamon run the larve;sea salt run the larve, but slow to work;cajun season nothing;chili powder nothing;nacho chedder nothing;alum nothing;baby powder run the larve and shb, looked like shb's was getting sick;the best was the corn starch made the shb's slow and covered there hair up till it was all over them.A bee might be able to pick them up with that all over them.I tried this all in plactic bags, not my bee hives.I just started this 2 hours ago and not a one is dead.We are all going to have to work together to kill these little bugs.copper287

Can you explain what you meant by "run the larve"?

It would make the larve run to the corner of the bag, wanting out.But after more then 12 hours in the bags none of these killed the larve or shb.Not even the boric acid.So i guess i'll have to think of something else.copper287

That's interresting since boric acid is what's recommended in the corrugated type trap.

What about vegetable oil? Have you tried that yet?

What seem to work best is trapping the beetle. This is also best for the bees I can imagine they would run is dusted with chili powder, I know I would

You can take para moth balls off, they just run the larve and they are still alive after 24 hours.I'll try the lime for you,but i do not know what diatomaceous earth is or i might not call it that.copper287

Well, my thumb got tired from pinching beetles against the hive tool so I thought if a drop of alcohol would kill them I would load an eyedropper and surgically exterminate them. I didn't want to use denatured alcohol so I thought "whiskey" but I found the vodka first. It's probably my imagination but they seemed to enjoy their alcohol drench. Sure didn't kill them. Did the same with the drunk beetles....squished 'em. Keep up the good work COPPER.

This is just a wild hair but, I was thinking of enclosing the overwinterer supers in a plastic bag (can get some that I think 8 or 10 supers would fit in) and injecting a Carbon Dioxide atmosphere. Since the O2 would be displaced, would this cause all larvae to die? CO2 is pretty cheap and it would not take much. However, it would have to be replenished occasionally. Has anybody tried this?

Dry ice in the bag, might do the same thing for you. Close the bag tight.
