Anybody want to wager if the H2O situation is going to improve or worsen this winter? El Nino forces may come into the equation this year. One thing for sure, a lot of people and farms in the desert, spells long term water issues.

A little almond news. Almond crop is moving lower...not sure how this is going to affect things but one thing is sure....they need more water in Calf. if they plan to get the numbers up.

(Modesto, Calif., June 30) —The June 30, 2009 objective almond forecast for the 2009-2010 crop year is 1.350 billion meat pounds, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service – California Field Office (NASS/CFO). This forecast is based on 710,000 bearing acres.

Doug Flohr, statistician for USDA-NASS, California Field Office, said the forecast is down 7 percent from the May 8, 2009 subjective forecast of 1.450 billion pounds. The estimate is also down 16 percent from this year’s crop to date of 1.613 billion pounds as of May 31, 2009. The official announcement was made today at the Modesto office of the Almond Board of California (ABC), which funds the forecast.

The average nut set per tree is 5,589, down 25 percent from the 2008 almond crop. The Nonpareil average nut set 5,136 is down 27 percent from last year’s set. The average kernel weight for all varieties sampled was 1.58 grams, up 10 percent from last year.

    Gotta agree louie,
pollen sub is the main ingredient.I just find it funny that last year people that have never gone to Cali, were chit chating about how easy the money was.the tables have turned now and the strong will survive.
