I built a NUC with 5 frames....2 had old comb with some honey & 3 were with foundation. I put a drop or two of lemangrass oil at the entrance and in the back of the box. In about 3 weeks I had caught a swarm. Seems kind of easy. I know beginners luck, this is my first year. Just go for it.

It can be very easy. I get all of my increases from swarms. I usually get 7-10 out of 11-12 traps. I find there are some locations that catch swarms year after year. There has been alot of discussion about swarm trapping here just try a search and see what you find. I do well with 5-frame boxes like richhitch said. Put the trap up about 10-15 feet. Best time for me is mid May to July.
