Have one of my hives at a buddies house a few miles away. New walk away split and the queen they raised never did a great job. Actually she did,but story for another day. Went to requeen and couldn't find the old queen. Tried knocking all the bee off in a hive body,then reassembled it with hive body on bottom with no frames,queen excluder and them the original deep with the frames on top with the idea that the old queen couldn't get through the excluder and presto we had her. I went out of town,wife found a few bees below the excluder and iced them. Didnt look like a queen though. She is awesome at spotting queens. Anyhow went back today,two weeks later to check the hive and low and behold they had swarmed. Ok,I know its swarming season,but all of a sudden my wife saw the queen we had introduced. She was fine. Went home got a couple of frames of brood and bees and added them. Reduced the entrance and fed. I figured what happened was the old queen got through the excluder and left with the swarm,but it amazed me the new queen was fine. It was strange. Now what? Thanks for reading CU Dave
