    Default Hello from Ottawa Ontario

    Hello from Ottawa Ontario.

This is my second year beekeeping. I have two hives - or rather I will if I am successful re-queening my laying worker hive... No queen, spotty brood, multiple eggs per cell. Oh well! I am not making money doing this, so this is a fun and interesting learning experience. I have never had to deal with a laying worker hive before. I am adding a frame of open brood per week from my good hive, and will introduce a mated Russian Queen with the third frame using a push-in cage. Hope it works.

If I am successful I will have a Russian/Ontario hive and a Hawaiian(Kona)/Ontario hive. Trying to decide how best to ventilate now. I was going to use an open screened bottom board, but do not want to cool the brood too much. My goal for this year is to build up the populations and keep them alive through the winter. Honey next year.

    Cheers.
