    Default Shower Heads and Pressure

    I had to replace my shower head this last weekend because it was old and starting to crack. When I had that head, there was a lot of preassure going through it and it felt great but now, we bought a new head and the preassure sucks.

    How do I get back to the original preassure that it had before?

    1.take the shower head back off. 2.remove the plastic disk or washer in the female end.(the end that screws onto the pipe coming out of the wall)You might meed a small screwdriver to get it out they are usually white or gray.3 screw shower head back onto pipe.

    Chef;
    Todays building / plumbing codes require low flow shower heads. Its probably designed for 2 GPM or less. Your old one , with out a doubt, had a much higher volume, which allowed for more pressure.

    Many heads simply use a washer with a small hole to acomplish this. Remove it or drill it out.

    You could also go to a 2ed hand store and buy a used older one, if you can find one.

    Of course the low flow, saves you water, saves the energy to heat that water, electricity to pump it, lessens the burden on the treatment plant or your septic system. You wll also be a "code violator"

    But then.... its your house.....

    There are differences in low flow heads, too. I have one that I have taken with me in my last 3 moves because it is great, even with my crappy water pressure. I got it through some energy program in NY in the 90's. Don't ask me how to tell good from bad in the store, though.

    Chef,

    Who needs a shower head...just use the straight pipe coming out of the wall after you remove the old one or for really redneck uptown, clamp a section of garden hose to the pipe and screw on your choice of lawn sprinklers to it.

    Default Who needs a shower head?

    Or just do what we did in one of my early college apartments: put a bucket under the spigot and use a large Wendy's cup (or Taco Bell, the key is that the cup is plastic) to rinse with. Just kneel in the tub and bathe that way. We didn't have a shower at all.

    On second thought, I was exceptionally glad to move out of that apartment. Maybe you don't want to try that option...

    Ahhh. Glad you asked this Chef, because I have a shower that has really sucky pressure, and I didn't know if it was the shower head or something else in the plumbing system.
