Default Do I need an entrance reducer?

Both my langstroth hive and my TTBH have entrances that span the entire front of the hive. Will I need a`reducer? If so, can I just block 3/4 of the entrance with something?

You sure can and probably should to prevent robbing!!!! Use anything. Grass stuffed in the entrance or a pc of wood or anything!!!! Make it so only a bee or 2 or 3 can come and go until it gets into the major nectar/pollen season then give them room.

I have not used any in 40 years. I occasionally use a brick or a stick.
