Default Central New York Pollen 3-14-09

Girls were bringing in what appeared to be pollen today. What gives? Light to bright yellow. 47, sunny with light wind today. Anyone seen anything and have any guesses?

Had some hives bringing in the same pollen color last warm day last weekend and again today, they are located in a river valley so I suspect its skunk cabbage, have you checked your hives for honey, they used alot this year, my two deeps were very heavy but I've been giving frames of honey last two weeks.

    Default I'm Light...

I'm light too. I'll be up to a yard in Lakeport tomorrow. If there's skunk cabbage I'll see it there.

Going to be putting on fondant tomorrow too. 8-)

I had started another thread on the same topic. My bee yards in and around Binghamton NY were bringing much pollen today. Finally a beautiful day, a bit cool, but sunny...

Silver maple, perhaps. Here in Indiana we seem to be about a week ahead of usual with regard to what's blooming.

Checked hives today. Really nice day, sunny about 60. Bees were bringing in quite a bit of pale white/olive colored pollen. It's nice to see them working.

    Default yellows here too

Mine are bringing in two different yellows, I am assuming pussy willows and skunk cabbage.

I wish I could see what mine were bringing in! I won't see them for another two weeks when I get back to NY!

Mike, I'm new to this site. From Verona near Turning Stone. You started feeding yet?

Pussy willow or tag alders perhaps?

Yeah, this weather makes me think that I should bring my hives north early. But I'll resist that urge.

    Default nw ct

So far, as of this past week-end, nothing from the nw corner of Ct.
Could have missed them coming in with something, and think we are far behind last year at this time.

Good to read that others in the general area are starting to report some activety. Will be looking for the willow, cabbage, red maples....

I saw today that our bees were bringing first of the season light yellow and orangeish pollen.

    Default Albany area too!

My significant other saw them bringing in pollen this afternoon too!

Wondering if they're drinking the sap from the maple trees too. After the ice storm damage there are a lot of broken branches that are dripping like crazy!

If you don't see bees bringing pollen today you may have queen problem. Queenless hives don't really bring (much) pollen.
