I am getting ready to extract, but will need to put a few empties back on hives.
Question is : Right after extraction can I spray still wet (with honey)frames with BT, then stick them back on hives ? Or do I need to let the bees clean them out,let them dry then spray and put them back on hives.
Thanks
Mike
Hi, we have been using Bt for quite a while and have good success with it. I would let the bees clean the frames as, in my opinion, the target of the wax moths is the wax. If there is a layer of honey between the wax and the Bt I doubt that it would be effective. Just my
two cents worth. Take care and have fun.
With flexibility for not-had-coffee-yet spelling , bacillus thurengensis. It's a bacterium that when ingested by many larvae ruins their day, but is not harmful to pollinators etc. It's a very friendly but very effective control for a lot of pest insects.
Butterfly toxin,..[maybe]. But it's safe to use on honeybee comb to prevent wax moths.
But YES; it is.. 'Bacillus thuringiensis'.
