On the adults the "horns" or antennae clubs are distinctive and unique. The larvae are difficult to crush with your fingers, unlike waxworm.
Rats well I must admit I was hoping you were wrong. I had some show up 3 years ago but then no more. Just wishful thinking I guess but I sure don't hear my bee neighbors mentioning them. Of course much less moisture in the Central Valley than in Menlo Park.

Good question!
We also have Red Imported Fire Ants in southern Calif yet no inspections etc., intra state.
