I have read that they fly 15 to 18 MPH. How long does it take them to fly out a mile? It depends how many flowers they are stopping at.

Perhaps a better question would be 'how long does it take for a bee to return to the hive, as in 'bee-line', from a mile out?'

Well the math works out like this:

15 MPH = 15 miles in 60 minutes
60 divided by 15 = 4
So at 15 MPH a bee can cover a mile in about 4 minutes. Pretty good for a bug!! Only a few top athletes can run that fast. But a bee can do this all day long!

Especially impressive given the fact that most of them are girls. The four-minute mile has never been accomplished by a female human. (on record that is)
