    intership job wanted

I am a hobbiest beekeeper with 6 hives for two years now and was looking for some experience with a commersial beekeeper. I live in Central Florida, but would be willing to travel. I know I do not have the experience that one might look for in hiring a helper, but I am a quick learner and a very hard worker. I would love to learn and help with queen rearing, pollination, extraction, etc.

    Thanks for looking,
    Richard J. Crews

crescent city... exactly where in central florida (my old cpu is having a hard time placing it on the map)?

you should have a good number of possibilities at your own back door.

travel and the ability to drive a large truck (commercial driver's license) is most times essential.

north of Orlando south of Gainesville area. I meet one commercial beekeeper here so far but he says he is not big enough to need help, him and his wife take care of it them selfs. I will keep on looking, we all cant have jobs doing what we love but if we don't try its our own fault.

    Thanks for the support,

Work for free for the large guys and in a short period of time you will have worlds of experience worth paying for. Your knowledge will grow exponentially and your appetite will be increased.

    Try Bee-L listserve.

Travel orange orchards and place notes on hives.

Go to FL state meetings and post there.

Go to local meetings and let your interest be known.

Post ad in bee mags, read ads in bee mags.

    ok...

so you really are a bit more in north central florida?

there are a number of bee firms (I think a fellow from maine mentioned 9 firms) in zolfolo (sp?) springs, fl (slightly south east of bradenton). I met two at the abf (austin) two years back. one fellow ran a firm called cantu pollination services who by all observation appeared to be expanding. mr cantu and the fellow from maine (can't really recall his name but george ferguson likely does) seem to be buds. both had operation that included bees plus queen rearing operations (or at least that is what I was informed).

I would think about contacting the state bee inspector (should be located somewhere about gainesville) plus you might drop a line to a beesource member... all florida bee removal just to see if he might provide a contact or so.

just a couple of suggestions and good luck...

Try Gary Orosovich in Howey in the hills. He has an ad in the Bee Journal for queens.
