Craig's List for swarm calls

Somewhere, someone suggested using www.craigslist.org to post swarms found or swarm removal services. I searched this forum but came up empty. The idea sounds intriguing, but I have two problems.

First, my closest craig's list center is 100 miles away in St. Louis. Not pratical to drive that far.

Second, if I had a swarm, is craig's list the appropriate forum? How many of you actually sit by your computer and search for swarms? I get most of my referrals from the police department and the conservation department.

Anyone using craig's list? I even searched for honey and bees and came up with a couple of hits.

I doubt that you will get too many if any people posting on craigslist for swarm removal. They usually go to the yellow pages first or call the cops or fire dept.

I have seen many postings on these forums for areas...so this would be your best bet as far as I am concerned.

On the Dallas criagslist I see homeowners posting about swarms they have and want a beekeeper to come and get them. You can contact craigslist and they will set up a closer city link for you.

my experience with Craig's list is that people go there for free stuff when it comes to bees. I can't afford to do extractions for free. Some swarms aren't free either.

I have an add on Craigslist http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/wan/710373417.html, and I get a bunch of mail/calls from it. I even get calls from across the country (No, I won't drive to new york for a swarm, no matter how big you say it is.)

It's a nice way to occasionally get good calls.

I can't actually stop you from using my lines, if I so desired.

I get a lot of mail saing "Hi - I don't have a swarm, but if I do I'm certain I'm going to call you." Promises, Promises.

That's one swell ad there, I have to agree, but I would have expected it from the author of http://www.voiceofthehive.com/ . A great collection of bee stories, should be required reading.

Most of the calls I get from Craigs list are for cut outs.Usually the person has gotten three or four estimates to remove them and want them taken out for free.Here in L A there are hundreds and hundreds of feral bee hives.I have picked up 17 swarms this year starting in Febuary.

I've had swarm calls from craigslist, just because the listed city isn't near you doesn't mean the people who use it aren't near you. I've also found a couple of bee hive locations on craigslist.

When I see a listing for a swarm or colony on the free page I email them with a link to my website, sometimes it pays off. Once I emailed someone who was offering free bees to say, "offering free bees to a beekeeper is like offering free water to a plumber"

I also get calls from people who have found me on www.ebeehoney.com (thanks Becky)
