    Default opinions on pollen collection

Does pollen trapping adversely affect honey production?

I can only speak from my own experience. I have done no scientific studies.

I collected approx 35 lbs of pollen last year from 4 hives. I did not see any noticeable difference in honey production or amount of stored pollen in the comb between hives with pollen traps and those without. Just my 2cents.

Thank You Dan for your response. This is my first year with pollen trap on a hive. So I was curious as to what others had experienced.

I would say it does not effect honey collection here. We do have a massive pollen flow here which can plug the entire bottom brood box (which is really why I tried a bit of pollen trapping in the first place) of a robust hive. so at least here pollen trapping has the added benefit of keeping the bottom brood box somewhat open for brood rearing.
